Bitchin Interview Series: Darija Varnas
Since it’s vintage week here on our bitchin’ lil blog we thought we’d treat you to a inside chat with our very own vintage buyer, Darija Varnas. She’s sweet, she’s sassy, she gets to shop for a living, oh and she models too. Yeah, we’re majorly jealous of her awesome life.
SB Editor: Since you have the kind of life most girls would die for, can you tell us how you jumped into the fashion industry?
Darija: I had previously studied art and art history in college, and began making my own wearable art installations. Then I went to school for fashion design where I really began to pursue my love for costuming and periodic style pieces.
SB Editor: Aside from being innately awesome, how do you strive to exemplify a Skinny Bitch girl?
Darija: I just try to be myself. If you are true to who you are, and keep motivated in general, you will keep moving forward in life and gain strength and confidence along the way.
SB Editor: Motivated, strong, and confident (this girl’s a force to be reckoned with!). You are in every sense a Skinny Bitch, but what makes a vintage piece Skinny Bitch worthy? What do you look for when you shop to stock our vintage line?
Darija: Most of what I own, collect, and look for is unique yet versatile. Pieces you can mix and match with modern clothes or accessories. I look for fun flattering looks that can really enhance an occasion and make it worth remembering. It’s fun to own a piece that shows off character and personality, which can really hold you apart from a modern setting.
SB Editor: With that being said, what is your favorite vintage trend for fall?
Darija: Anything 70’s inspired, especially wide leg pants and sheer maxi dresses.

SB Editor: Girl after my own heart! So what would your go-to outfit consist of?
Darija: I’m pretty simple but I do love to dress up. As long as I’m comfortable, I can almost always be found wearing my tights, boots and some sort of vintage dress. I never leave the house without my blazer jacket, it really adds to all my outfits. And it’s a wonderful “go-to” piece if you want to look nice.
SB Editor: Love that down-for-anything attitude, maybe we should make it our Skinny Bitch motto. Now we know you’re partial to probably every piece you pick out, but what is your favorite piece from the SB line?
Darija: Oh, I have so many favorite pieces! Can I give a top 3? The Quipid Leopard Ankle Booties, I would wear them with everything. All of the acrylic jewelry, the skyline necklace especially. And of course all of the vintage, the Crochet Batwing Tunic, for obvious reasons…
SB Editor: Yeah, we kind of love that top too. What other lust worthy pieces can we expect to see in the SB vintage store for fall and winter?
Darija: Capes, coats, and fur, oh my!

SB Editor: We kind of already know the answer, but if you had to define your outlook on life with one mantra, what would it be?
Darija: Hakuna Matata!
SB Editor: Should have bet on that! And now one last question for the hell of it, what is your ultimate weakness? The one thing you can’t live without?
Darija: Hmm. That’s a difficult one, because I wouldn’t be able to live without the people I love and care about the most… but in a lighter perspective I believe my ultimate weakness would have to obviously be shopping. Without doing that, I wouldn’t be able to provide all of you lovely people with vintage gems, now would I? ;-)
